Send University: creating an email welcome series with WhatCounts

WCNewsletter_Heros_540x270_100217-01

Send University is absolutely free to sign up for. If you haven’t taken the introduction course yet, you can read more about it here.

Our next course in Send University will guide you through the process of building and deploying a three-part welcome series to your subscribers using the WhatCounts platform.

Why should you have a welcome series? A welcome series can be a very valuable addition to your marketing campaign, and subscribers who receive a series of welcome messages have shown to engage with brands over 30% longer than subscribers who don’t.

Additionally, it gives your subscribers an idea of what to expect and is helpful in directing them to a preference site — which will allow for deeper segmentation and personalization since subscribers are given the ability to provide you with demographic data.

In our welcome series tutorial, you’ll learn to:

  • Create a custom field to identify if customers have previously received the welcome series. Creating a custom field ensures that customers will only go through the welcome track once. This is especially helpful if you offer coupons or other offers as a part of the welcome series.
  • Route subscribers to a custom list to ensure your new subscribers are isolated from your other lists and not over marketed to during the welcome experience.
  • Next you’ll be taken through email design and shown a few examples of welcome emails so you can get a better idea of the welcome experience.
  • After walking through email design, you’ll be taken step-by-step through the process of creating your campaign. You will be shown a finished workflow and how to create this flow, starting out with checking and updating data. Once those housekeeping tasks are out of the way, you’ll be shown how to deploy your campaign.
  • The final step in creating your campaign is to move the customers from the Welcome Series list to the general Marketing list. After learning how to do that, you’ll learn finally how to activate your campaign.

This course will teach you everything you need to create an amazing welcome series using the WhatCounts platform. If you have any questions about setting up a welcome series in your account, please don’t hesitate to contact your account manager or support@whatcounts.com.
